Isabel Bishop (1902-1988) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up in Detroit. She created drawings, etchings, and aquatints. Earlier in her career, she concentrated on single figures, capturing her models' strong personalities. In 1961, she started making aquatints and her compositions became more abstract. In Detroit she studied at the John Wicker Art School before moving to New York and studying illustration at the New York School of Applied Design for Women.
