Joe Chris Robertson (11/19/1922-09/19/2000) was the Chair of the Art Department at Mars Hill College from 1951 until 1990 when he retired. He traveled broadly in the pursuit of inspiration to fuel his artistic endeavors, visiting Europe on several occasions as well as conducting extended stays in Northern and Central America. He participated in over twenty-two solo exhibitions, taking place at such venues as North Carolina's Asheville Art Museum, Mars Hill College, Hendersonville Art League, Asheville School, Brevard College, and the University of North Carolina. He won many honors including three purchase awards in printmaking, several second prizes and honorable mentions, and a first prize in painting bestowed by the Arkansas Art Center. Roberson's works is in the permanent collection of the Asheville Art Museum,, the University of Arkansas, and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in Tennessee. He lived in Mars Hill, North Carolina.
