Martha Armstrong (1940- ) is primarily known as a landscape painter. Her approach is vigorous and forceful. She has been visiting artist or visiting critic at a number of institutions including Massachusetts College of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, and Dartmouth College. She has had numerous one-man and group exhibitions all over the country. Armstrongs' paintings have been exhibited at the Bowery Gallery, New York City (1995, 1993); Hull Gallery, Washington, DC (1985); The Painting Centery, New York City (1993); and the Noyes Museum, Oceanville, NJ (1984). Her works are in the permanent collection of the Allentown Art Museum, Allentown, PA; Bryn Mawr College, PA; Emison Art Museum, DePauw University, Greencastle, IN, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City, NJ.
