David Nelson ( - ) is an Asheville area ceramist. He has won several awards, including a residency sponsored by the Archie Bray Foundation, been featured in several publications, and his work is prominent among many pottery collections throughout the country. He has traveled widely, participating in seminars and exhibitions, the most auspicious of which was the Wooster Functional Ceramics exhibitions of 1981 and 1983. In the early stages of Nelson's career his works were elaborately carved, and multi-faceted, and usually made of porcelain. Though he continues to work in this same medium, his pieces have clearly become more utilitarian in nature; functional yet colorful and well-designed. In the past ten years he devoted more focus to clay sculptural relief panels.
