Richard Ritter (10/25/1940- ) was born in Detroit, Michigan. He received his formal education at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit, currently the College of Creative Studies. He has taught at the Penland School of Crafts, the Society of Arts and Crafts, the Toledo Art Museum and the Bloomfield Arts Association.
His work which consists mainly of glass sculpture has been exhibited nationally and internationally. His work has involved through extensive exploration of images using the murrini processes. He has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant and the North Carolina Artist Fellowship Grant. In 2000, he received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the College of Creative Studies School of Art and Design. Ritter lives and works in Bakersville, North Carolina.
