Adult Studio: Still Life Drawing & Painting with Angela Cunningham

THREE SESSIONS THROUGH THREE WEEKS—Thursdays • October 12, 19 and 26

Explore the techniques of creating a dynamic still life drawing or painting. Students will have the choice to work with charcoal or oil paint to create a piece in this 3 week session. In class we will discuss how to create a setup, the do’s and don’ts of composition, techniques for creating a focal point, mark making and more. Students are encouraged to bring objects of inspiration from home to work from. Non perishable items only. This class is great for beginners and seasonal artists alike. The workshop includes a tour of the exhibition The Art of Food to discuss creative concepts and be inspired by the works on view.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Angela Cunningham (b. 1977) grew up in the Bay Area of California. She studied at various art colleges eventually receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting with a minor in sculpture from Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD). After teaching in California at LCAD and Saddleback College from 2005-2007, Angela pursued her passion for the classical techniques of drawing and painting under the mentorship of Jacob Collins at the Grand Central Academy of Art (GCA) in New York City. She graduated GCA in 2011. She now teaches privately at her own studio near Asheville and teaches workshops at various studios nationwide. Angela is a member of the National Sculpture Society, the Portrait Society and Preserving A Picturesque America. She is also a recipient of various awards including the Morris and Alma Schapiro Achievement Award, Art Renewal Center First Place Scholarship Award, the Alfred Ross Achievement Award and more.

Adult Studio

Local and visiting artists help students of all levels and abilities develop skills in media that reflect techniques and themes featured in the Museum’s Collection and special exhibitions. Classes are designed for anyone interested in exploring specific media in depth or introduce new media and processes.

Refund policy for Adult Studio: Unless otherwise noted, refunds for ticketed/paid adult programs will be made if a request is submitted in writing at least two weeks before the scheduled program. The full cost of the ticket/registration, minus any credit card or other processing fees, will be issued via check within 30 days following the written request.
