2023 James Beard Finalist, Best New Restaurant

Silver Iocovozzi is the child of a Filipino immigrant, born in South Carolina and raised in the cross section of the American South and the Philippines. As a lifelong southerner Silver continues to nurture a deep love for the histories and foodways of live fire cooking and its application globally. Dedication to the culinary cosmos is indebted to the experience of their Filipino mother, Neneng, as a first-generation immigrant landing on Parris Island, SC in 1986. The lessons taught through this connection have deeply affected their calling to the diffusion of Filipino traditional cuisine and its heritage.

As the first-time chef/owner of the highly acclaimed and community funded restaurant Neng Jr’s, Silver keeps hearts and minds full in Asheville, NC. One month after opening, Neng Jr.‘s was featured in Bon Appetit and countless other publications and has been named a Best New Restaurant by Eater and Esquire, where the restaurant took the #3 spot on the 2022 list and Silver was noted Rising Star Chef. Neng Jr’s is a 2023 James Beard Finalist for Best New Restaurant.

Neng Jr. ‘s is an intimate 17 seat Filipinx restaurant based in Asheville, North Carolina by Chef Silver Iocovozzi. The menu featured at Neng Jr. ‘s is a reflection of their experience in professional kitchens and a lifetime of interest in food ways research and development.
